Farm News

We are looking forward to our CSA member potluck this Sunday October 4 at 1pm. Family and friends are welcome and the event will occur rain or shine. We will have beverages and a main dish and ask that you bring a dish to share. 

Last weekend we also hosted folks at the farm. We gave a workshop for farmers and gardeners looking to scale up their operations.  This was the second year we have offered this workshop through The Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association (OEFFA). 

  We discussed our equipment choices, demonstrated the mechanical transplanter and looked at the tractor implements we use while touring the farm. Ben has also been able to buy used equipment cheaply and fix, modify, and fabricate it through metalworking. He shared his knowledge with the workshop participants. Every new implement we get has helped us tremendously.  

 More and more folks are getting into vegetable farming who, like us, didn’t grow up on farms. There is a ton to learn (even those who have been at it for decades tell us they are still learning) and we are happy to share what we know.  We also love going on farm tours ourselves. OEFFA offers farm tours throughout Ohio all summer long. Several are geared toward farmers but several are geared toward consumers. We encourage you to check them out!

 Recipes

sausage and greens strata (Though not included in the list of greens, this recipe would definitely work with mustard and/or turnip greens. We love to pair spicier greens with sausage)

Winter Squash, Arugula and Apple pizza (Use 2 acorn squash in place of 1 butternut squash. I would also wilt the arugula by sautéing for a minute or 2 because it is larger leaved arugula)
