Farm News
We survived the heat wave! The biggest concern was actually that the refrigeration unit in the delivery truck went out the week before last. Luckily for us, one of our CSA members owns a refrigeration company, Simco Refrigeration Inc, and could fit us into their busy schedule! In between our Thursday and Tuesday deliveries the unit was fixed (needed a new solenoid) and we had a fully functioning refer truck for deliveries last week, which was most likely the hottest week of the season! I can’t imagine what the wait time would have been if we had to cold call a company to see the truck and I am really glad we don’t need to find out!! Farmers call August “Slogust” because we have to work really hard to get everything done, often in uncomfortable conditions! September and the cooler weather that came with it feels like a new chapter in our season. Throwing on another layer during harvest this morning was such a welcome change of uniform from last week’s sticky sweat-soaked clothes (incurred, by the way, while merely standing in place)!
