Farm News
The inevitable cold has come, but in a surprising twist seems to be here to stay! For this reason we went ahead and harvested several fresh things for this week’s box last Wednesday- the last day above freezing. So be sure to use them up first – that would be the cilantro, head lettuce, salad mix, braising greens and mustard greens. I am glad we harvested those items when we did because the leftovers in the field are officially dead! We have our spinach covered and it is the most cold hearty green so the hope is it will still be available for the final box.

Our big farm news from the week is that we had our organic inspection for our certification. All went well- we looked over our seed order, inputs (like soil amendments and fertilizers) for the year and making sure they are organic compliant, harvesting and sales records and making sure they match planting records (we are selling what we growing), and walked around the fields, barns and packshed. I tell people that we are never worried about the inspection since we know we are following the rules, but it can be nerve-wracking nonetheless. And definitely feels good when it is done- a major check off of an organic farm’s to-do list!

Coconut Milk Braised Greens and Sweet Potatoes (use our onions in place of shallots. use braising greens or mustard greens or both)
Classic Caesar Salad (the last salad greens of the year should be done up fancy!)
Salad with Roasted Butternut and Pomegranate (another salad option! roasted beets would be a great addition)
