2025 CSA Season!

I wanted to send a little spring update and also let our CSA members know about a change to the blog this year. Instead of weekly posts that correspond to the box that week, members will get an email titled “What’s In The Box” that will have a list of the vegetables in the share with pictures. I will try to include a couple recipes and a picture or 2 from the week with each What’s In The Box email.

As for this blog space, I plan to make about 2 posts per month to keep CSA members abreast of farm news and happenings as the season unfolds. We get a lot of positive feedback about the blog so I didn’t want to take it away from you all! But we continue to find ways to get a better work/life balance and my weekly blogs do take up a significant amount of time! Luckily it’s all archived and with the search function, you can still find a lot of information from years of blogs posts! For example you can type in “fennel” in the search bar and get to the fennel veggie info page to find fennel recipes. I also think the What’s In The Box is a quite nice format for getting the box contents to you and the pictures along side each veggie will be very helpful!

It’s hard to believe that the CSA starts next week for our weekly members and some biweekly shares! I always say every year is different and this spring follows suite. It was so wet the end of March and into April that I completely reseeded some of our early crops afraid there would be no way we’d get them in ground . I’d never done that before! Turns out my panic was for not because we did actually get to plant the original round of beets, cabbage, broccoli, and kale. And after a successful week of planting, we had another weeks long rain event!

All the rain we’ve had since planting has made weeding hard to do! These are our potato beds dealing with a lot of thistle! Fortunately we were able to do a round of hand weeding since this photo was taken. Unfortunately we’ll be dealing with this thistle all season long.

It has also been a cold spring- while there were no late freeze threats after planting starting, there haven’t been many days above 80. I think this makes for pleasant working conditions, but I was worried the plants wouldn’t grow enough to start the CSA on time! I did a crop check today and the veggies have responded to our weeding, side dressing of fertilizer, and rain and so we’ll have plenty to harvest next week! If you need a sneak peak this is what I think will be in the first box: kale, spinach, salad mix, garlic scapes, dill, bok choi, and head lettuce! The wait is finally over!

  1. Farming is certainly not for the faint of heart. So much to plan, work arounds, flowing with weather etc. I appreciate your labor of love and was thrilled to pick up my beautiful share yesterday! Thank you to everyone on the farm!!!
