Farm News

Last month we applied for status as an Endorsed Farm with FairShare CSA Coalition and were accepted and this past weekend we participated in our first annual meeting with other endorsed and affiliated farms. FairShare is organization that has existed for 30 years serving CSA specific farms in the upper midwest and has recently expanded its efforts into Ohio. I wrote about it in a blog earlier this summer when we hosted a farmer to farmer gathering. To be an endorsed farm, you have to meet certain criteria: 1. Be certified organic (or in transition) 2. sell through CSA 3. Produce the majority of what you sell 4. demonstrate high quality customer service and support. We love that this group exists to strengthen both the organic and CSA movement and holds members accountable for distributing high quality organic produce.

In addition to meeting participating farms via zoom and hearing what the organization accomplished in 2022 and its goals for 2023, there were a couple of farmer to farmer discussions around attracting farm employees and favorite farm innovations. While it made for a busy Saturday – 4 hour long meeting on top of market and the kids’ school band concert- it was a nice way to kick off the off-season! We are very much looking forward to traveling to Madison, WI to participate in the Organic Vegetable Grower Conference, one of FairShare’s major undertakings, in February! Winter conferences are great for learning, connecting, reenergizing and inspiration!

  1. I made Okonomiyaki for the first time this summer; AMAZING! An easy, “I don’t have time to cook much” meal :-).
