CSA member field walk: July 11 at 7pm
It is vacation time — for the rest of our family! All of my (Emily) siblings are on academic schedules and a trip to Mile Creek Farm is often included in their summer plans. Since we can’t leave the farm in the summer time, we appreciate when everyone visits. It is also fun when the visits of one sibling’s family overlap with another. This week we are hosting 3 families! For a few years we had interns live on the farm in an old corn crib that was made livable, but this year all help is local. Fortunately the intern quarters are still fully furnished and clean so some family will stay there. I even went out and harvested a fresh cut flower bouquet for the room in anticipation of my sister’s arrival tonight.
As a family farm we really do need to oversee and participate in the day to day operations which limits our ability to leave during the season. We are fortunate to have parents who enjoy traveling with Evan so he doesn’t miss out on fun family events. Last week he went with Ben’s parents to Illinois to see his cousins perform a dance recital and later this month my mom is taking him to another cousins birthday party. I imagine our younger daughter, Isla, will have her first sleepover trip sometime this summer as well.
Of course our vacation time does eventually come and we typically enjoy turning things down a notch in the winter. But, in the meantime, the farm is alive and the needs of the crops are constant. We are very pleased with how everything is looking right now. We hope that you all can make it out to the farm in a couple weeks for our field walk. It is a wonderful opportunity to see just how your food is grown and see the crops in their various stages of life. You’ll see what we’ve been harvesting and what we have yet to harvest. The field walk is July 11 at 7:00pm and typically runs a little over an hour. Family are always welcome!
