Farm News
It’s good to keep a sense of humor during these intensely busy months of the farm season. Ben was searching a farm supply catalog this weekend and came across a “biological agent” that gave us a chuckle- Cats. The listing, which is actually a $1 donation to a local animal shelter, goes into great detail about Cats as an effective rodent control tool. There are descriptions, graphs, instructions, etc. There is even a label with a breakdown of ingredients in cats, including 7% claws, 7% instinct, and 72% inert ingredients. 🙂 For a good laugh check out the CATS product at Seven Springs Farm Supply: https://www.7springsfarm.com/collections/traps-barriers-etc/products/cats  and click on all the extras!

We currently have 2 cats. I am sure our farm pick up members have been graced with Cheddar’s presence at some point. And the other one, Pickle, I would argue is 100% inert ingredients!  My childhood cat, Newsie, got to live her final months at Mile Creek Farm. After leaving home for college and years living in places that didn’t allow cats, I was so excited to finally be able to bring Newsie to me!  She had a great finale to her life “hunting” under the old corn crib that came with years old corn still in it and plenty of mice!

Cheddar loves a good view (and open doors so beware farm pick up members!)
The Wrigley and Mallie era was a good one. Wrigley came to us from The Learning Tree Farm and Mallie came from a CSA member’s farmhouse.
Oreo is Cheddar’s brother and sadly his time with us was way too short! In that time, though, we got to experience the strangest “mouser” yet. He collected random bits of trash which he proudly brought to our back door. This was his biggest “kill” yet.
Pickle came to us after we lost Oreo thanks to Isla’s teacher at the time. She prefers laps that are indoors above all else.

Veggie Spring Rolls (use green cabbage and peppers in place of red)

Ginger Garlic Freezer Pickles (these are really delicious and stay crunchy when thawed!)

Coming up next week (our best guess)…. Cantaloupe, tomatoes, sweet onions, potatoes, cabbage, sweet Italian peppers, cucumbers, eggplant, salad mix, sweet corn
