Farm News
A couple weeks ago I wrote about Ben’s new job at MOSA in the blog. This week he had a full office retreat where the organization is headquartered in Viroqua, WI, and was gone for a week! Fortunately before he left, he had a chance to train Audrey on the potato digger, which she had never used before. This was key to a successful week without Ben as digging our sweet potatoes was the week’s priority after CSA harvest, wash, and pack. Audrey did great and we were able to dig another 3 beds of sweet potatoes before last week’s rain and this week’s cold.

While we were busy on the farm Ben had a good time meeting his coworkers in person and touring the driftless region of WI. Vernon county, where Viroqua is, has the highest concentration of organic operations per capita in the country. They toured Organic Valley and other places MOSA certifies and had great weather for some outdoor recreation as well! I’m glad to have him back and he got right back at it this weekend winterizing everything for the upcoming cold and fixing the market trucks brakes!
Recipes
Creamy Turnip and Potato Soup (use dill in place of thyme!)
Spinach and Chickpeas with Dill (your spinach portion is 1/2 pound, so use your turnip greens in addition to get a pound of greens. I would also start with one lemon and add an additional one only after tasting)
Fall Weeknight Pasta (you can use any green from this week’s box or previous weeks’ in place of the kale- including cabbage and bok choi)
Coming Up Next Week (our best guess…..) Daikon Radish, Carrots, Beets, Dill, Sweet Potatoes, Cauliflower, Napa Cabbage, Salad Mix, Red onions, Potatoes, Garlic
