CSA Week 3

This Week’s Harvest

Farm News

Now that CSA season is underway our days are filled with harvesting, washing and packing vegetables for the present boxes and planting, cultivating and tending vegetables for future boxes. The fields are filling up nicely.

We have crops that we plant continuously through the season- sweet corn, herbs, cucumbers, melons, zucchini and salad; crops that we plant a spring round and a fall round- kale, chard, spinach, broccoli, cabbage; and crops that we just plant all at once- sweet potatoes, potatoes, onions, winter squash.

Can you see the 3 rounds of salad mix and 2 rounds of basil in this field?

We planted the winter squash this week which completes our “all at once” category of planting. Potatoes were planted first, have been hilled a few times and are starting to flower! Last week the onions received an all hands on deck weeding session which was a great task to accomplish and we think we might have some of the cleanest onions ever.  And after their usual rough start with transplant shock, the sweet potato slips are putting on new growth and looking good.

Onions required some hand weeding, but with all hands on deck it didn’t take too long.

So planting and tending to our crops is all going well and we are excited to just keep harvesting all the variety through the season!
